When you receive a donation receipt through one of IsraelGives' international partners (America Gives, Canada Charity Partners, UK Gives, Fonds de Dotation IG, Chai Charitable) the donation will thank you for your donation and your "recommendation" of where the funds should be allocated towards.
Your first instinct might be: "Hey! Recommend? Does that mean that my donation won't necessarily go towards the cause that I wanted?"
Rest assured that it will.
In order for your donation to be tax-deductible, non-profit law forbids donors from "demanding" or "instructing" a charity of what to do with the funds that they donate. Instead, donors can "recommend" or "advise" (as in a Donor Advised Fund) of what should be done with the funds.
However, as long as the charity that you donated towards meets our criteria for support, there's no reason why we shouldn't be able to respect your recommendation. You can always double-check with us at any time on the status of your donation, and if we're not able to send it to your organization of choice, request a full refund.
